Having been rudely awoken by a large explosion at 6am, we decided to head west of Hemel Hempstead and get a look at the Buncefield oil depot fire. The smoke and local fog made for some good photo opportunities.

To celebrate my 30th b'day, I was very fortunate to have 18 friends join me in a bunkhouse in Nant Peris for a weekend of fresh air and beer. Cheers guys!

2 days on the Hardangervidda plateau started with a short walk from the Fagerheim hut. We followed it
with a 50km ride on the Rallervegen, the old navvie's road used for building the Oslo-Bergen trainline across the
plateau.

On the road again, travelling from the Sognefjord down to Bergen, and then back east on Highway 7. This coincided with the area's hottest heatwave since 1946, with several days of temperatures regularly hitting the low 30'sC.

Some photos taken along Highway 55, the spectacular Sognefjellet road and a kayak trip to the snout of glacier. A large iceberg, approx 20m high, calved off the glacier within about 2mins of us pulling ashore, but of course no one had a camera ready. :o(

A 2day hut-to-hut walk in the Jotunheimen mountains. Starting from Leirvassbu, we headed down to the DNT hut at Gjendbu (22km), unwisely opting for the 'shortcut over the ridge' plan, which looked easy on the map (ahem). Day 2 was a bit more relaxing, with a different 18km route back to the car.

Started with one of Norway's most popular day-walks, the impressive Bessegen Ridge. We then had 2days of touring taking in the Rondane National Park, the Troll Wall, the Troll Road (with a superbly scenic campsite) and a ferry trip along Geiranger fjord, before stretching our legs with a day's snowboarding at the Galdhoppigen ski centre.

A great summer holiday in Norway for Liz and myself. Started in Oslo with a chance to play tourist and catch up with some friends that we met 5years ago in Australia. From there, we started the grand tour with a drive north to Lillehammer.

Not much snow around for February, but it was nice and chilly (-7C on the summits).

A few days work in New York gave me the chance to visit a few famous landmarks: Times Square and the Empire State Building by night.

Fun at Croyde Bay, before heading off to the Quantocks for more biking.

A fun tour of Exmoor by bike (complete with wrong turns, hiking and the Bog of DOOM) before returning to our Croyde campsite and meeting a parrot.

Involving a BBQ heated to smelting temperatures, a hosepipe to cool it down again, Slippery Nipples, vicious man-eating tigers, etc. Just the usual then.

Spent 5days based in Cortina - biking, walking, and an unpleasant experience with a storm on a via ferrata!
